CONCEPT CHARACTER

 

A self-directed learning exercise based on the work of Dani Diez. Modeled in ZBrush, textured in substance painter and rendered in Cinema 4D.

Concept

Using the concept design of Dani Diez as the basis of a self-directed learning exercise during quarantine. I wanted to learn the fundamentals of Substance painter as well as producing a model using Zbrush as my primary modeling software.

Modeling

The initial modeling period was split into two phases. The first was to produce an accurate representation of Dani Diez's concept design while also emphasizing clear sculptural forms and a strong silhouette that worked in 3D. The second phase was spent learning and implementing a robust UV mapping pipeline from ZBrush to Substance.

Texturing

The final phase of this project was spent learning the fundamentals of Substance painter’s workflow, and producing custom alphas and height maps from bespoke geometry for use in smart materials. Each material choice was intended to align with the original concept.
